In a few weeks, the first print manifestation of Dazed Beauty will hit the shelves at limited bookshops worldwide. Issue Zero is kind of like the de facto Dazed Beauty primer: a physical version of our weird and wonderful virtual world, a celebration of our launch theme: the future of beauty in all its many guises.

With this in mind, what could be a more appropriate inaugural cover than Kate Moss and Travis Scott reimagined as mythical creatures by some of our favourite digital artists, Darío Alva and the Travis Brothers? We wanted to portray two of the world's most recognisable faces in a way that would defy conventional beauty and fashion imagery, and defy expectation. In a ten-page story called The Children of Ixion, Kate and Travis – two very different global beauty icons in their own right – are brought together for the first time in a celebration of futurism, tech and imagination. Half beast, part machine, Kate and Travis roam a dystopian landscape listening for a signal. Manacled in barbed wire, and lashed by stormy weather, our anti-heroes are more fallible than they look. But what are they searching for... An escape? One another?

The second cover is Slick Woods' head as a digital avatar designed by artist and Dazed Beauty favourite Rick Farin. You might remember a version of this image from the Choose Your Player campaign, which launched Dazed Beauty digitally back in September. But here, Slick’s 3D head has been transformed from a spinning animation into a beautiful cover image that continues the themes of futurism, tech and imagination from our first cover.

Our third cover features cult artist, musician and beauty icon Genesis P-Orridge, shot at their last London gig by Danish photographer Casper Sejersen, and styled by Ellie Grace Cumming exclusively in Yang Li.

And our final cover is of Kylie Jenner, shot by photographer Daniel Sannwald and run through an artificial intelligence system called Beauty_GAN. The first algorithm of its kind, Beauty_GAN analysed over 17,000 beauty-related posts on Instagram and used this source data to train itself to create original beauty imagery without the help of a human. Here, it applies those hair and make-up looks – totally computer generated – to Kylie’s face.
